My Quote in September’s ASJA Monthly Newsletter

It was fun to wake up this morning and see that I’ve been quoted in the September ASJA Monthly newsletter.*

I’ve been very pleased with my membership in this great organization for writers. For those who don’t know, ASJA is the American Society of Journalists & Authors, the only professional association focused on independent nonfiction writers.

I first heard the expression, “good publishing karma” from Susan Shapiro, author of eight books in eight years—her latest, Unhooked, is due out in 2012. Upon meeting Shapiro in 2009, I was immediately blown away by her incredible generosity of spirit with other writers. I’d never before met a writer so willing to share every one of her contacts. It confirmed my longterm belief in living a useful and fulfilling life by being helpful to others.

*Why I Write for The ASJA Monthly
Networking and good publishing karma. ASJA isn’t about writers competing. It’s about opening up to offer help and support to each other. My first article published in The ASJA Monthly landed me a great work connection. The same day I posted the article to Facebook a friend’s friend saw it and contacted me.   —Dorri Olds
