I love watching Jim Carrey. I’ve been a fan of his since the days he played Fire Marshall Bill on In Living Color. I loved him in Mask and I loved him in this. Ewan McGregor also did a great job but his character was far more sedate than Jim’s. If the story weren’t true it would be hard to believe that a guy could be such a great con artist for such a long time. It put me in mind of Leo DiCaprio in Catch Me If You Can. The real-life con Jim Carrey plays is a man named Steven Jay Russell who during the 80s and 90s escaped prison multiple times and did it with glorious chutzpah. I wish I could describe to you everything he did to bust out of jail but I’m not going to ruin the movie for you by giving away his hilarious shenanigans. I was completely charmed by the film and everyone in it. I give it 3 stars out of 4.
