Making the right impression when presenting is key, not only to delivering your core message, but to help establish or maintain your credibility on the topic. A slip up on your presentation, or a poor quality video projection, and you risk damaging that vital first impression forever. Getting it right requires a well-designed, well-themed video projection, accompanied of course by words of meaning and substance. Here are a few essentials you need to bear in mind when creating your projection slides for maximum impact.

Strong, Bold Statements

Be concise. Avoid including detailed paragraphs of text, or images that are too intricate to decipher at a second’s glance. When your audience turns their attention to your presentation, you want them to get the takeaway point immediately, with the spoken part of your presentation building on the projection you have prepared. Go for strong, bold statements that outline the crux of your message, and take care to present in a font that is suitably sized and colored. People need to be able to read and digest your core message as quickly as possible, without having to struggle to make out your text, so it is best to keep to statements that are easy to read and understand.

Professional, Clean Theme

A professional, clean theme can work wonders for your pitch, displaying the core information behind your presentation in a stylish but professional way. This is in contrast to cluttered themes, or visuals which detract or distract from the main thrust of the points you are presenting, and can quickly undermine an otherwise valuable, meaningful pitch. Don’t go too out of the box, unless you know that’s what your audience is expecting, and avoid garish colors and styling features – they won’t do the focus of your presentation any good.

High Quality Projection

No good visual presentation is complete without a high quality video projector. A high quality video projection system will ensure your visuals are carried through your presentation in the highest possible resolution, making slides easier to follow and helping underline the professionalism in your presentation and your wider businesses. We all know first impressions count, and a shaky or low-res projection system will do you no favors on this front.

Those who deliver presentations on a regular basis, or employers who require presentations as part of their organizational information flow, need to think seriously about the optimum projection system for their needs. Without the right hardware, your job of pitching convincingly will prove much harder. But with the right technical setup, your presentations will convey your message with more meaning, for a memorable, professional presentation.

The best website design, internet marketing, print marketing uses the psychology of color. A talented skillful web designer understands the power of red, black and white and the emotions conveyed by blue, green, pink, etc.

It is not news that color evokes powerful emotions. Countless studies have deduced that people react to specific colors in certain ways but every brain is different hence everyone’s reaction to a color is subjective. One person may say Matisse is the greatest artist that ever lived, another may say Picasso — you say tomato, I say…

Portrait of Sir Isaac Newton

Isaac Newton color chart dates back to the 1600s.

We Have Seen the Light

Sir Isaac Newton developed a theory of color based on studying how white light breaks into colors when viewed through a prism. The Ancient Egyptians used color for cures to ailments. Some of the earliest studies of light were by Aristotle who discovered that two colors, when mixed together, can form another color. Okay, so what does all of this have to do with web design? A lot.

Color and Website Design

Smart marketing takes color perceptions seriously.

White is seen as purity, the absence of color, sterile.

Black, though it can symbolize evil, also communications power and sophistication.

Blue is the favorite color for a large majority. It is also the considered the favorite of men.

Red is loud — it grabs attention, it conveys excitement, intensity, even anger, but it is also the color of love; just think of Valentine’s Day.

Pink varies — depending on the hue and shade (hot pink, pastel pink, fuchsia, etc.). Light pink is usually associated with love (hearts), innocence and sweetness (baby girls) so, depending on who you’re trying to attract to your website and services, it can be a good choice. A great example is the pink ribbon associated with fighting breast cancer. Pink can also be a very poor choice when you want to attract business clients and project an image of power and strength. Pink can look weak, childish and frilly which does the opposite of inspiring consumer confidence.

Green has a calming effect and relieves stress (nature). Of course depending on how it is used it can also convey power and money or jealousy.

Brown is another symbol of nature and tranquility (wood, soil) and can imply safety, security.

Purple may strike people as exotic, spiritual, or it can imply great wealth. I would be remiss if I didn’t caution designers that purple is a very slippery slope. It can come across as arty-fartsy and unprofessional, especially to corporate clients.

Yellow is cheery and positive like the sun but it also can be overwhelming and should only be used sparingly in web design.

Orange can work wonderfully as a highlight color. Keep in mind though that color combinations that include orange can evoke very different emotions. Orange and brown can convey sophistication, orange with red and yellow is great for websites to attract children, parents of young children and/or industries that provide services for elementary-school aged children. Orange with blue is another tricky combo. They are complementary colors and can look electric, as if they’re vibrating, which can be dizzying and make the text difficult to read. Orange and blue, if chosen correctly, can look strong and stylish.

The bottom line is this: when you choose a web designer it makes a huge difference if they have a strong background in the psychology of colors, eye tracking (see article “Eye Tracking: How the Eye Scans Your Web Pages“) and experience with search engine optimization (SEO), keywords, trending topics, and a strong understanding and success rate with social media accounts. At the very least they should understand that YouTube has become the second most popular search engine — Google, of course, is number one. For a website to look current and professional it must include icon links to, at the very least, Facebook, Twitter, YouTube and LinkedIn. Pinterest is growing at a rapid rate in popularity. Depending on the crowd you want to attract, your website designer should consider all of the additional socialmedia options too, i.e., Reddit, Stumbleupon, Google+.

Hope everybody got a chance to chill and have fun. Things are exciting here. Just signed another contract to redesign a website. I must say, a lot of people have experienced terrible trauma with unreliable web “designers” that don’t do what they promise and many of them disappear on the clients. Don’t return emails, calls, facebook messages and tweets. So strange, you’d think in this economy people would be thrilled to have the work. I’ve been very lucky with work and I never take it for granted. Not for one single second. I know I may be a tad twisted because I love working almost more than anything else, but that’s a conversation for another day. Today I must finish an oversized 16-page print newsletter, an organization’s 100-page membership directory, a book cover, blogs, facebooks and tweets for clients, put in a proposal for another website redesign gig. And write a few articles. Tonight I’m meeting with a few fellow writers to critique each other’s work and play with my dog. I’d love it if people told me what’s going on in their lives. Oh, and this week 4 of my articles will appear in the NY Resident magazine and one in the brand new magazine, “Resident Health.” Life is very good. Ciao4now.

According to Wikipedia, as of October 22, 2010, the world’s population—the population of humans on planet Earth— is currently estimated to be 6,876,600,000. Spelled out that number is six billion eight hundred seventy-six million six hundred thousand. That is one heckuva lot of people. Hard to wrap my head around it. This figure comes from the U.S. Census Bureau. According to the International Telecommunication Union’s October 19,2010 newsroom press release, the number of people online by end of 2010 is estimated at 2 billion. The number of internet users has doubled in the past 5 years. The number of people having access to the Internet at home has increased from 1.4 billion in 2009 to almost 1.6 billion in 2010. According to New Media Trend Watch, the number of people online around the world will grow more than 45% to 2.2 billion users over the next five years, according to a report by Forrester Research, Inc. with the global online population expected to reach 2.2 billion by 2013. Asia remains the biggest global internet growth market where 43% of the world’s online population will reside by 2013 with 17% of the global online population in China alone. Growth rates in the US, Western Europe and the major industrialised nations in Asia Pacific such as Australia, Japan and South Korea will slow to between 1% and 3%.

What a great movie!! I must warn you though, lots of violence and scary suspense. I felt exhausted afterwards. But, MAN! that was one heckuva good flick — fantastic actors, terrific writing. It’s very close to being as good as the first (Girl With The Dragon Tattoo). These are based on a series of three books. I’m definitely going to see the next one. Can’t wait! One thing: why don’t the art directors know to put white type with black outline into subtitles? That way you would’ve been able to see every single word easily in every frame. I don’t remember the subtitles being at all a problem in the first film. Synopsis: This girl was abused and she is pissed! She is such a cool character — brilliant with computers and posesses a photographic memory. The other main character is a good man, a journalist, who you’ll totally root for. Both movies are engrossing. Ok, I have spoken 😉

Apple’s new upgrade of iOS 4.0 software for Apple iPhone works with iPhone4, iPhone 3 GS, and iPhone 3G. Not all features are compatible with all devices. Multitasking (only available with iPhone 4 and iPhone 3 GS) does not hinder performance of the iPhone. iOS 4 is a free update. The OS contains one hundred new and upgraded features. Now there’s much finer-grained control over apps and data. Now it will be easy to see what apps are running on the iPhone and how much storage remains. Users experience better organization and easier access through the use of separate folders. iOS 4 will be able to manage up to 2160 applications on a device and folders feature handy-dandy drag-and-drop. Email can now be viewed from all of your accounts in a single inbox. Attachments will open in a new, easier way.

In Adobe Creative Suite 5 there are four categories to choose from: Design Premium, Web Premium, Production Premium and Master Collection. Here is an overview of which product is best for you. On the Adobe website you can type in your specific work project needs and you will be able to click to receive recommendations from Adobe about which Creative Suite is right for you. Under photography I selected Import and Organize images, Edit Digital Images. Under Print Production I chose Design Page Layouts for Print, Prepare and Preflight PDF files, Prepare or Edit Digital Images for Print. Under the Design heading I chose Prepare Images for Print, Web and Interactive, Create Vector Graphics for Any Media, Design Layouts for Print and Digital Docs, Build and Maintain Standards Based Web Pages, Deliver Dynamic Content in PDF. Under Web Design and Development I chose Design Dynamic Webpages, Use Print-Quality Typographic Functionality, Design and Prototype for Mobile Devices and Smartphones. Under Video and Audio Production my choices were Capture and Edit any Type of Video, Deliver Video to Any Screen, Create and Edit Audio for Videos, Create Motion Graphics and Visual Effects, Create Video for use in Flash. I was “told” that the Master Collection would best suit my needs. Here’s a list of the contents on Adobe CS5 Master Collection:

An Apple employee had too many beers and forgot his iPhone 4G prototype on the bar stool. It was cleverly disguised as a 3GS iPhone. But was then taken apart and inspected which revealed it to be a next gen iPhone. The 4G will not be called that. Rumors have it that the new iPhone will be called iPhone HD. It’ll have a front video chat camera, a better back-camera with larger lens, camera flash, micro-SIM instead of standard SIM (like the iPad), improved display, a secondary mic for noise cancellation, split buttons for volume, metallic buttons for power, mute, & volume.
