Tweets Grew 1,400% Last Year

According to Twitter on Feb 24, 2010 tweople were tweeting 5,000 times a day in 2007. By 2008, 300,000, and by 2009, 2.5 million per day! Tweets grew 1,400% last year to 35 million per day. Today, we are seeing 50 million tweets per day—that’s an average of 600 tweets per second.
As for age groups on social media, according to :

  • 1/4 of social media users are between the ages of 35 and 44.
  • 61 percent of Facebook’s users are middle aged or older.
  • College-age people do not dominate any particular Web site.
  • Classmates.com has the largest amount of older members.

And, it’s no surprise that

  • Senior citizens have not caught on to social media yet.
